ATV & Snowmobile Trails are closed

Due to the unusually warm weather and lack of snow, the snowmobile and ATV Trails are closed. Thank you to the volunteers who took the time to be trained, and groomed this year.

ATV Trail Openings

The Washburn County ATV Trails are scheduled to open on Saturday May 26th.  This is the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend.  The Wild River Trail & the railroad bed from Spooner to Shell Lake does remain open year-round.

Fire Danger

With the storm damage from last summer and lack of moisture fire danger is of concern. Once the ATV Trails have opened if the DNR determines the fire danger to be Very High or Extreme the ATV trails will automatically close. Washburn County Tourism has a very friendly website where trail conditions and closures are posted.  You should also familiarize yourself with their website.  Conveniently located in the upper right corner is the trail conditions. This is where the trails will be posted as open or closed. The DNR does not post the trail closings; it is posted on the tourism and forestry website, under the direction of Washburn County Forestry.

If the fire danger closes the trails, this does include the Wild River.

The Tourism Office can also be reached at 715-635-9696.

ATV Ride Schedule

Have you ever thought of taking your friends on a fun ATV ride? We are again looking for leaders to schedule summer ATV Rides. Your ride can be once, weekly, monthly or even a several day trip.  Come to the next several Membership Meetings and schedule a summer ride.

ATV Trail Patrol

The ATV Season will once again bring out ATV Patrol Volunteers. This is not an enforcement action, but members assigned to patrol the trails and repair safety issues along the ATV Trails. This could be anything from replacing missing or broken signs to trimming brush blocking a stop sign. The club provides the tools necessary. There will be a sign up sheet and schedule at the next couple membership meetings.
